Most computers come with a free trial of anti-virus software. But is that anti-virus software really going to provide the protection you need? It is easy to just go along with the free trial. The software is already installed and it is ready to go from the instant you connect to the internet. However, the default anti-virus software does not always provide the best protection for you computer.

Usually, the default software is a free version of the product or a temporary full version of the product that will expire at a certain time. This means that you usually are going to have to spend some money for the product. But if you have an older computer on which you have already purchased a subscription to, then it makes more sense to transfer your subscription to the new computer. Doing this could cause a conflict message as two anti-virus softwares detect each other rather than a virus.

Another consideration is the default anti-virus software itself. You have to consider things like if it is really a good program to have or if it is really just a low-rated product that has the potential to cause lots of future problems. The quality of the service can easily be checked out and customer service should be taken into consideration.

Finally, you have to consider the price to continue the default anti-virus or upgrade the system. The continuation of service is essential to keeping your computer protected. Remember, these free services at maximum protection only last for so long before they expire and you are either required to downgrade or plunk down a credit card number.

How to Add a Border to a Picture With PhotoShop

When you download pictures to a computer from either the Internet or a digital camera you are going to often find that they are a lot bigger than you expected them to be.  You are able to reduce the size of the picture by using the software to edit pictures. Most of the images are measured either in inches or pixels, and this is going to depend on the software that’s being used.  When you reduce the measurements it’s going to make the picture smaller.  Here are the steps that you can take to do it.

Open the program that you are using to edit the picture. You are able to change the size of a picture using Microsoft Paint, Gimp, PhotoShop, and a lot of other programs that let you change an image.

Click the word ‘Image’ in the software’s tool bar and choose to scale, to resize, or size.

Enter the pixel number or the number of inches that you want change the picture to. The current size of the picture is going to be displayed both vertically and horizontally.  Reduce both the vertical and the horizontal numbers so that the picture becomes smaller.  A lot of times you’re only going to have to change one number and then the other is going to adjust automatically so that the photo’s proportionate.

When you are done editing the picture, click on OK. This is going to let you see the changes that you have made.

PhotoShop is one of the best editing software that you can choose, but it tends to be a bit more expensive than some people can afford.  Microsoft Paint is a good option because it is free with a computer.

Steps for Stopping Popup Windows in Google Chrome

Popup windows are a pain and no one likes to deal with them. Here the steps that you can use to stop these annoying popup windows when you are using Google Chrome.

Open the browser and find the wrench icon which is found in the upper right corner of the window of your browser. It’s going to be shaped like a wrench.

Click on the icon and then click on the options button.  The options window box is going to open.

Click on the tab that says ‘Under the Hood’, then click on the thing that says ‘Content Settings’.

Click on ‘Pop-ups’ in order to show the panel for the pop-ups.

Click on the option that says not to allow any of the sites to show pop-ups. This is going to put a checkmark in the check box.

Click on exceptions to display the text box for exceptions. If you want to see popup windows for some of the websites that you visit, enter those websites URLs in the box.  An example would be if you play on pogo and you want to make sure that you can play the games, you would enter www.pogo.com.  This is going to tell Chrome to let that site give you popup windows.

Nothing is more annoying than having to deal with popup windows when you are trying to do something on the Internet. If you’re using Google Chrome, these are the steps that you can take to stop having to deal with the popup windows that we all seem to deal with on a regular basis. Now that you know how to do it easily and quickly, stop having to deal with the popup windows every single day.

Steps for Disabling AVG

Even though you don’t usually have to disabled an anti virus software before you install new drivers or software, some of the software and installers suggest that if you run applications and programs that they are shut down to ensure there’s no interruptions during the process of installation. In AVG software, the resident shield is usually the only one of the components that you should disabled temporarily.  Here are the ways that you can do this on your computer.

The first thing that you want to do is to right click on the icon that says resident shield that is on the right side of your task bar, then open the user interface for AVG.

Next you will double click on the words resident shield which is found int eh center of the window.  You can also click on the word tools, then click on advanced settings, and then finally choose resident shield.

Third you’ll uncheck the option that makes the shield active, and this is found under the settings section for resident shield, then click on save changes.  This is going to disable the shield but still allow things like email scanner to run.

Finally you want to install the new drivers or your software, then repeat the above steps, but this time you want to activate your resident shield. Save the changes to make sure that AVG is enabled again and close the window for the user interface. Finally restart your computer.

Disabling AVG is not difficult and this process is going to make things a lot easier for you to update the software or the drivers.  Follow the steps above and you will find that the process is very easy and quick.

3 Ways to Save Video Files on a Computer

With a lot of computer video creating software available on the market, a lot of people are making their own videos. When they are done making them, they want to make sure that they are able to save their creation. Here are the steps to save videos.

Put a blank DVD or CD into the disk drive of the computer and you’ll see a box pop up. Internet has become an integral part of everyday life of most of us directly or indirectly. A vast amount of data is transferred through internet around the globe. People are inclined towards sharing the information about their basic life, financial life, recreational life, educational life, carrier life etc freely on the internet through the use of various social platforms, blogs, websites etc without understanding the security threats.

It is understood that no one is secure while using the internet and in order to be safe online we need proper security measures on regular basis. Despite of strict security measures, the secret documents and important data of agencies, government and corporations that is placed on web servers is vulnerable to security threats caused by hackers, viruses, malwares etc.

Since the internet is a global system of connection, therefore, there is need of global rules and regulations regarding the cyber crimes. But this is not the scene. Some countries definitely have made cyber laws according to their needs but those laws do not cover the whole world under them. There are many countries in the world where the cyber crime is on its peak and there is not a single rule regarding the internet functionality and security. In some countries some cyber laws have come into effect but they are not capable of taking all the issues which appear these days.

Redefining strict cyber laws on a global scale is vital in order to stop the cyber crime. Whereas, security measures at technical and personal level should also be adopted. The technical measures that have been adapted for enhanced security include a Network layer security in which cryptographic methods are used to secure TCP/IP as well as the other protocols in order to make the communication of the internet secure. Operating System are resource managers. The main is computer hardware in the form of processors, storage, input/output devices, communication devices, and data. Some of the operating system functions are: implementing the user interface, sharing hardware among users, allowing users to share data among themselves, preventing users from interfering with one another, scheduling resources among users, facilitating parallel operations, organizing data for secure and rapid access, and handling network communications.

One can view Operating System from two points of view: Resource Manager and Extended machines. From resource manager point of view, Operating Systems manage the different parts of the system efficiently and from extended machines point of view. It provides a virtual machine to users that are more convenient to use. The structurally Operating System can be designed as a monolithic system, a hierarchy of layers, a virtual machine system, an exokernel or using the client-server model. The basic concept of Operating System is processes, memory management, I/O management, the file systems, and security.

Each operating system is specific in its functions and devised to perform some particular tasks as written in their programs. The application software is the programs which are specifically devised to work on the specific software plate form on a specific operating system. Sometime, even the hardware is also specific to be used by the particular operating system, software plate form and the application software. If an application software is to be run on another operating system, different from that software, there are some alterations are needed to be incorporated on that application software to run. This requires heavy cost of money. The better way to avoid these compatibility problems is to write the application software on the wide spectrum software plate form like Qt and Java etc because these software plate forms have written by taking into consideration the compatibility issues.
